I first came to yoga to rehabilitate an old dance injury. I spent years bouncing around different studios, gyms, and YouTube videos in search of affordable classes that fit around my hectic work schedule. It wasn’t until 2015, when graduate school brought me to London, that I finally discovered my yoga home with the amazing teacher, Emi Takahashi Tull, and the Dharma Yoga lineage to which she belongs.

The Dharma lineage provides a physically challenging asana sequence that is deeply
and practically grounded in yoga philosophy. It is about striving for excellence, but renouncing all the fruit — doing the work because it must be done, without expecting anything in return. Practicing this way rehabilitated not only my physical body from the stresses of the dance world, but also my mental state, shifting me away from being competitive, performative, or chasing poses. My practice is now about cultivating focus, balance, and resilience. It is something that I strive to bring to my students, as well as to everything I do off the mat.

In 2019, I had the opportunity to spend two months volunteering at the Dharma Yoga Center in New York. While there, I studied daily with the yoga master Sri Dharma Mittra and his senior teachers – to include the inspirational Pam Jones, Kim Jeblick, and Yoshio Hama – and completed my 200-hour teacher certification.

Currently I teach beginner level yoga classes on Zoom from my London flat, serving students from all over the world, and help Emi convene her online classes during lockdown.
